Glengarry Wines (NZ) 23 June 2011 Crossroads Winery Hawkes Bay Syrah 2009 Syrah is not the sort of wine you can load up with oak, you have to show some restraint. It's more like making Pinot,” says Miles. Crossroads aim for a supple, mid-weight style, rather than “hanging the grapes out to get 80% shrivel to make a really concentrated wine. We just don't like that style.” This has an alluring nose of spice, flowers and dark berryfruits, is plummy and violet-touched. There's some toast right at the back, while the palate displays sweet fruit in a feminine, floral and very attractive style. Gorgeous texture, easy flowing with gently nudging tannins keeping it to a straight course.
Crossroads Winery Chardonnay 2010 Through nectarine and peach flavours, the oak shows itself texturally rather than overtly, although some toastiness carries the fruit to a charming end. Texturally it's silken and full, a billowing kite of hedonistic delight. Crossroads Winery Vineyard Selection Cabernet Franc 2009 Cocoa/dark chocolate comes through, the oak a subtle shading of the fruit. That fruit surges through on the backbone of tannin, finishing almost sweet & shortcakey, embraced by toast. Winestate Magazine Recent Release Reviews September/October 2011 Crossroads Winery Vineyard Selection Kereru Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2010 Five Stars Robust wine with arresting power. Very full-bodied, with deep, vibrant peach, pear and spice flavours, a hint of butterscotch, and a rich, creamy finish. Notably concentrated, complex and harmonious. Lovely wine, already approachable. San Francisco International Wine Competition June 2011 Crossroads Winery Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 Gold Medal Harpers Wine and Spirit Trades Review 3rd June 2011 Crossroads Winery Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2010 The wine is from the Kereru Road Vineyard in the Mangatahi region on the banks of the Ngaruroro River, (try pronouncing that after a couple of glasses). Just a tiny proportion (5%) is barrel fermented to give the wine a little weight and mouthfeel to balance the refreshing and zippy acidity, made possible by the cool climate of the vineyard area in the otherwise very warm Hawkes Bay. Please with the results, winemaker Miles Dinneed says: ‘In the winery some of the individual batches were whole-bunch pressed for some very fine juice, while a smaller portion was fermented, with ambient yeasts, in older French barriques. The young wine spent the winter on light less with occasional stirring to further the palate’s texture.” Decanter May 2011 Crossroads Winery Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2010 ‘The first vintage of this wine. Solid and intense with round, ripe fruit, and a hint of oak giving a nice mouthfeel. Part-fermented in oak to give a little more texture and body.’ Winestate Magazine Recent Release Reviews May/June 2011 Crossroads Winery Vineyard Selection Kereru Road Vineyard Merlot/Cabernet 2009 Five Stars Strapping Hawke's Bay blend (15% alc/vol), muscular but not heavy, with dense, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, French oak complexity and buried tannins. Powerful, fleshy, very rich and supple, in a youthful, supercharged style, deliciously lush and smooth. Crossroads Winery Vineyard Selection Mere Road Vineyard Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Franc 2009 Four and a half Stars Powerful red (15% alc/vol), still unfolding. Dark, mouthfilling and silky-textured, with concentrated blackcurrant, red berry and spice flavours to the fore, and hints of coffee and nuts adding complexity. Deliciously rich, savoury and smooth red, likely to be long-lived. Crossroads Winery Vineyard Selection Elms Vineyard Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2009 Four Stars Youthful, medium to full-bodied style with floral, plum and black pepper aromas. Full-coloured, with strongly varietal flavours and a finely textured, distinctly spicy finish. Elegant and flowing.

Lithe and refined, with good intensity and balance to lime, narcissus flower and grapefruit rind flavors highlighted by savory herb and crushed stone accents. Grass, graphite and a pretty peach note linger on the finish. Rated as a Smart Buy.

Crossroads Winery Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2006 - Five stars, Top Ten and Best Buy
"A creamy texture is one of Chardonnay's big drawcards and it's here by the bucketful, kept in balance by well-managed acid structure. Great food wine". Rated in the Top Ten and also Best Buy.

In a recent tasting by erobertparker.com Crossroads Winery achieved a number of impressive scores across the range.
Crossroads Winery 2006 Hawkes Bay Gewurztraminer - 92 points
This is a very pretty Gewürztraminer from Crossroads. A delicate, very well-poised nose with notes of apple-blossom, apricot, lemon zest and a touch of granite. Nice minerally component in the background. The palate is well-balanced, very good acidity lending the wine vibrancy and poise, yet this is a reserved style of Gewürztraminer with a lovely floral, almost Mosel-like finish. Just superb. Tasted February 2008.
Crossroads Winery 2005 Talisman - 91 points
A blend of six (secret) varieties produced since 1994. The nose is fresh and lively with coffee, black fruits, wine gums and a touch of cooked meats. A full-bodied palate, rich dark cherries, coca, dark chocolate, plum and loganberry. Big, dense, almost confect wine...but that is not in a pejorative sense as this is well-crafted Barolo-esque wine. Despite offers of bribes, the blend was not divulged! Have fun working it out yourself! Drink 2010-2015. Tasted January 2008.
Crossroads Winery 2005 Hawkes Bay Gewurztraminer - 90 points
A strong phenolic, petrol scent on the nose, quite Alsatian with good definition and complexity. The palate exhibits good acidity and delineation, tinges of kerosene maintaining that Alsatian theme. Very focused on the finish with notes of peach, apricot and passion fruit. Very well-crafted. Excellent. Drink 2008-2012. Tasted January 2008.
Robert Parker's rating system deems a wine scoring 90-95 points as: "An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. I consider these terrific wines".
Tri Nations Wine Competition (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) November 2007
